——————————————————–
My engagement with the Drigg for Drupal Theme Development Project has ended.
Im going to collect a few notes on the Drupal Theme Development project and post here later, for now I want to discuss the future of this blog.
I have an interest in keeping a presence in the Drupal Community.
But have so much more experience with Joomla and other OS content management systems that I have to go back to school just to accomplish fundamental tasks with the Drupal CMS.
As for the Drupal Theme Blog on WordPress I am going to be posting articles on Joomla, Drupal, WordPress and other Open Source Content Management Systems.
The goal of this Blog is now to support discussion and opinion of the current CMS development strategies.
So share in the conversation by commenting and I will link back to your site and continue the conversation.
To your continued success with Drupal, Joomla, and WordPress!
This is where I started….

I am going to start by putting together some notes on creating a social voting and social bookmarking website for Drupal.
Beginning with a look at the current Drupal Social Bookmarking module Drigg, I will compare the functionality of the existing Module with sites like Digg.com and the Pligg project.
Creating a few new features is important for any new Drupal Theme to be well received by the Drupal programmers community.
Thanks to WordPress.com for maintaining a great Blogging and CMS Platform.
To your continued success as a fellow Drupal Theme Developer.

I have been tasked with creating a Drupal Theme Affiliate Program for the upcoming release of the Social Voting Theme for Drupal 6.6. Part of the process is discovery so I am researching some successful affiliate programs.

I was running a google search for “Drupal Theme Affiliate” and other related terms to see who is running a drupal theme affiliate program.

It turns out that there is few to none.

I am looking at idevaffiliate.com they have more features/buttons that a 747!!!

So i am placing banners from thinkhost.com at the bottom of this post, this is what affiliate banners look like today… I will have to create something with a bit more web2.0 style.

Hey, before you go commenting about spam, at least they are green 🙂 and yes they do green drupal hosting.

Two Weeks into the planning stages of a Drupal 6.6 Theme.

I have roughly 20 Screenshots of the Drupal Theme completed, these range from ecommerce to member profile requirements.

I am using Mac Keynote a very fast and flexible Presentation Software (powerpoint for mac) One issue here though is that I am unable to design the content under the fold, because the editor area is not user defined or scrollable.

I have also made use of a few online graphic generators, I usually just google something like “text image generator” and see what is available.

As I mentioned the project is on Basecamp. What Project Management Software do you use?

Ive been listening to WWOZ Radio, It is a New Orleans Public Radio Station – SOOOO Good!
oh hoho Merry Christmas Drupal.

I have been working with the Region Position part of this deign to create a flexible standard layout for a new drupal theme.

I think we have an innovative design piece that will be flexible for user customization.

Design Notes include:

Drop Shadows on advertising and voting buttons

Alternating List Icons

A reflected Right Region

Transparent Left and Right Advert Regions

Logos and links to successful social media sites.

There are no block titles above the fold.

Subtle references to application style navigation and operation.

Footer includes:

Prominent horizon line.

Content Shadow in footer.

Im going to update the the Drupal Design Brief at some point

In particular I enjoy creating websites with Application Style Navigation, and I hope that the final offering reflects this.

Below is an intro to the Marketing / Sales Copy 🙂

The all new Leverage theme takes Drigg style and functionality to a whole new level!! and so on 🙂

Happy Holidays Drupal Theme, and Other Drupal Developers Keywords Here.

This is the link to the Drigg Developers Website.

I have been tasked with writing sales copy for the upcoming release of a new Drigg for Drupal Theme.

Being new to Drupal and Drigg I need to do a good bit of reading.

Clearly the focus of the sales material is to persuade users to adopt the social voting system offered by Drigg.

I think one of the key items here is the overall flexibility and power of Drupal.

When a developer is weighing the benefits of Drigg vs Pligg what will compel them to select Drupal and Drigg over the Pligg system?

As I said earlier I am going to explore the benefits of each system. Hey, maybe I will even put together a side-by-side comparison of the features of each of the social voting systems.

using basecamp for drupal development

using basecamp for drupal development

My company is using Basecamp to manage the workflow of creating a Drupal Theme.

Using Basecamp is clearly very easy.

One of the best features of the Basecamp System is the ability to manage the Drupal development project over email. Basecamp integrates file sharing and commenting into an easy to use “reply” system. Each member of the web development project can simply reply to others emails with attachments and Basecamp organizes the files and comments by date and type.

I have had one serious issue with Basecamp lately. When replying to a message I have attached .png files, once sent, are corrupted on the Basecamp site. I had the same issue with a Word Document.

I had to manually delete the corrupted files and load new files under the “files” tab on the Basecamp site.

This was not difficult, but it created a bit of confusion with my Drupal development team, looking for files in attached comments, only to find they have been corrupted. Then having to navigate to the files tab and find the files that I had manually loaded.
